"The front desk staff at HI-NYC is on 24/7 and is extremely helpful. I was able to switch my pre-booked reservation from a dormitory room to an available private room with no issues. The hostel is a short walk from the 1 subway station. My room was clean and spacious. Just note the building has an older elevator so give yourself extra time when checking out."

"It's an old convent. Mother Theresa stayed in room #409. Unfortunately, not my room #. In the city for an assignment tomorrow. Needed a reasonably priced (under $200), clean basic bed & private bath. The bath towels are very thick and fluffy. Its perfect for my needs. Convenient to the ACE Subway.The TV is pretty small though. It's old fashioned. Don't leave the hotel with your key (a real actual key). When you return, give them your room # and name to retrieve your key."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Candlewood Suites. We had asked for a high floor, to cut down noise and we were happy with our room. There was little that could be done to prevent the noise of sirens though!! The front of house staff were always friendly and would chat with us each day. We had a great view of the Empire State Building so take a tip and pay extra for a city view! All in all it is a great place to stay when in New York - with a great location!"
