Aangenaam verblijf
Netjes, vriendelijk personeel, lekker ontbijt. Enkel jammer dat er geen restaurant in de locatie zelf is. Wel zijn er een hele boel restaurants in de buurt.

If you need a good night sleep on Saturday night. Dont stay here! Band was on in the bar until 12.00 pm. Did not get the decent night sleep i was hoping for. If you dont have plans for the following morning, and enjoy live music. Then this could be a good place to stay for you.

The stay was fairly reasonable value, but I found it a bit too noisy. I was quite disappointed that the hotel had changed breakfast times to 9am-10am, but didn’t inform me about this - that hour for breakfast is much too late.

I would visit again.
I met four staff during my trip and they were all first rate, friendly and helpful. I found the room too warm, I turned down the radiator but the room retained the heat. I was able to park on the premises but spaces are very few. There is a very close nearby free car park.

I really don’t know which room was featured in the picture but mine had paint coming off the walls, a 1970s style dresser, a shabby blanket and unspeakable carpet. I felt intimidated by the people in the bar and (as a single female travelling) it’s difficult to find, difficult to park close and just not recommended. I spent most of my stay in a pub nearby as I didn’t feel safe in the hotel. I only stayed one night out of the 2 booked. The bathroom was clean but I felt I had to sleep on top of the bed rather than in it.

It was ok....
I probably need to expand on what I mean by ok. There is nothing wrong with The Oakland. Our room was pretty dated - think 1980's Travelodge. However, it was in good shape and has been well maintained. The room was spotless and the carpets / bath etc. were all very clean. We were on the top floor and I suspect that the dividing walls do not go up into the roof space. why? because although the dividing walls were solid, we could hear everything from the rooms either side - not good at 02.30 and then again at 06.30. The breakfast was really good and comprehensive - a full english along with cereals / toast etc. Parking was easy as we were there Saturday night / Sunday and could park more or less outside. At other times parking is restricted although there is free parking nearby. In summary, it's not a place you would choose if you wanted to impress someone, however it is more than adequate for a night or two to use as a base. This is reflected in the price which on balance, makes this place very good value.

Busy pub at night but not loud at all. Good breakfast and plenty of choice in cuisine of a night, in fact you could stay for 2 weeks and still not eat in every restaurant! Clean and good shower. Parking is ok.

Great value Hotel
What a great value hotel, okay its a little dated but for the money it was great. They have live music most weekends but our bedroom was on the 2nd floor so couldn't hear the band. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was okay good shower and bath. Bedroom was clean. Breakfast was really good. Overall our stay was good.

Not for me, but no complaints
I can’t complain about this place. The bed was comfortable, the room cleaned every day, the shower hot. But my room, at the back of the hotel and nothing like as smart as the picture shown was overlooking the back of a Chinese restaurant and the smell and noise was horrendous. The room was also very hot and the windows didn’t open much - even if they had you wouldn’t want to because of the smell and noise. The breakfast was fine if you want a fry up and toast. Not suited to me but again, that’s just my opinion. Communal areas dirty and smelly. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would I stay again, no. Was it value for money - probably, maybe.

Terrible experience
Check in and room adequate and clean. However this is a town pub not a hotel. The music that is played into the bar and also put in the square using outside speakers is deafening and seems to be competing with the club across the square. It finishes about 1.00. There was nothing on the hotel.com mentioning music but as our room was over the square there was no way of getting any sleep so I asked for a refund as although we had checked in we had not unpacked. The staff directed us to who we believe to be the manager who said ‘he wasn’t having it, it’s a town Center pub. It’s a bank holiday’. We had paid so that was that so we handed back the keys. The hotel and they have again refused a refund. If you want to see how the management works there is a YouTube video for when ‘The Hotel Inspector’ Tv programme filmed there. It says all you need to know. It’s a shame staff were really apologetic. It might be ok midweek but if you want some sleep don’t stay Friday, Saturday or a bank holiday unless you like loud music.

Good central location with free parking. Easy access to shops and restaurants. We could not sleep well due to heat and noise from the pub downstairs. I wished I had paid £5.00 on arrival for a fan on arrival.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent, car parking was not an issue. The free live music was a bonus. The only reason I marked down for comfort is that the bed was a bit hard for my preference and the room was quite warm but overall very happy with my stay.

All ok just the evening entertainment didn’t stop until 1am and it’s very hard to settle a 3 year old when the music is so loud that you can’t hear yourself think
