'ruim opgezet hotel met nette kamers. Alles voorhanden en een heerlijk ruim zwembad. Twee restaurants waarvan wij de Chinese de beste vonden (en goed betaalbaar). Enige nadeel van het hotel is dat het niet echt op loopafstand van het centrum is dus even een GRAB of taxi nodig.'

'Geen strand, alleen was leuk krokodil farm en de sandakan history trial , beter deze plaats overslaan, de receptie wist bijna niets , heel hard bed , leek wel of je op de grond sliep , ze hadden geen top matras, s avonds muziek van buiten , ik had geen warm water, meerdere keren gevraagd, stel prutsers, weinig water uit de kraan '

'Mooie, rustige locatie in de jungle met vriendelijk personeel. Erg mooie kamer met een buiten badkamer. Je bent wel gebonden om bij de accommodatie te blijven omdat je niet bijvoorbeeld lopend naar een dropje kan. Het eten is gelukkig lekker dus dan is het niet erg om op locatie te blijven. Gratis shuttle naar het orang utan rehabilitation centre, sunbears en rainforest discovery centre.'

'The hotel and the room was very old and should be renovated urgently. The fridge was not clean and there was no shampoo in the shower. Staff is very kind and helpful. The location was not that good, because there were only local restaurants nearby. The price was ok for all that. '

'This place hasn’t been touched since the mid 1980s - thick dust and cobwebs everywhere, and the entire property smells like it hasn’t seen fresh air for decades, including the room. I would encourage any tourists to avoid Sandakan in general, as there’s nothing to do, and just base yourself in Sepilok. If you have to stay in Sandakan, only stay here as a last resort.'

'It's a piece of luxury in an interesting place - don't let the exterior building fool you. You can be walking into another world in Sandakan and Hotel Sandakan is a sanctuary amongst it. The staff emulate the local Sabahan hospitality and friendliness, I will stay again next time.'

'There are improvements being carried out, which will make a difference in the future. We were unable to get the advertised wifi at all, despite the router being reset many times. This was annoying. On four occasions we had random people enter our room without knocking, which was not okay. Once guy even got cross with us and said we should have locked the door. I had to clean the bathroom before use and despite being given a non-smoking room, the smell of cigarettes was present I. The duvet,...

'Overall okay. Only thing is the master bedroom aircon which takes awhile to fix. Owner very responsive and provided welcome drinks when arrived. The area is good and quite close to shops. Good to have a car though.'

'For the area of Sandakan that this hotel is in this is a pretty good option if you really have to stay here! I would not recommend the area at all. The staff here were very attentive and friendly. The room was adequate but the pillows were horrendous! Just lumpy lumps of hard sponge! The shower and sink use a pump system which was not smooth at all and you either had a ‘power’ shower or a trickle.
