Disappointing
For a hotel that has only been open around five years I do not think the rooms are wearing well. There was mold in the shower, the taps in the bathroom washbowl were lose, the plug in the sink did not work. For a hotel costing this much I expect a decent steam iron in the room and not just a cheap hot plate. There was coffee making facilities in the room and the fridge was well stocked with alcohol...but no milk, creamer or even powder for my coffee. Also no full length mirror in the room except the door to the bathroom but the bed was right next to it which made it useless as a mirror. All the staff were friendly and helpful but the overall experience was disappointing.

definitely one of my favourite
Unique intérieur, super friendly staff, excellent bar with great atmosphere in the evening, excellent location for shopping. The standard room is a bit too small but this is not an exception in London

Dissapointing experience.
Over the weekend, the Mandrake transforms into a bar/club with accommodations situated above it. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by subpar service and a lack of attentiveness, exacerbated by concurrent events on both Friday and Saturday nights. Prospective guests should exercise caution and verify event schedules during their stay, as hotel guests do not receive preferential treatment over walk-in bar customers. It is advisable to secure a reservation for a table in the bar in advance. The staff's performance left much to be desired; they engaged in unnecessary disputes, such as contesting the absence of a bottle opener in our room instead of promptly providing a replacement. Furthermore, I encountered difficulties gaining entry to the bar on two occasions due to wearing an outdoor coat and hat in frigid -2°C weather. Our experience in the Terrace room was underwhelming, considering its petite size relative to the associated cost. Additionally, the absence of room service for food further detracted from the overall appeal of our stay. We will not be returning.

Putting the record straight
Stay was fine , slept like a log in the big bed , English breakfast was good quality ingredients, eggs were clearly free range After making the booking I read the reviews, which were mixed , which made me a little concerned …. As we generally only stay in 5* hotels , and don’t normally feel a need to leave a review as they are what you expect However on this occasion I feel that it is only right that we comment The hotel is privately owned and a one off boutique, which is decorated in all areas with original one off furniture and fine art , it is NOT your usual travel lodge magnolia blandness . There is even live music in the later part of the week evenings The staff were welcoming, taking our bags to our rooms and showing us around , the lady who checked us both in and out also explained before checking in, that if we were to wanted complete quiet in our room towards the end of the week she would choose our room carefully for us We have already decided to stay at the mandrake when in London next month P.s. if you want to stay a in a hotel with character stay here , if not … not book it

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in
This is not a 5 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. It was dirty, smoky and old, and attracted some of the most undesirable people in London. Music was blaring all night on Friday and Saturday and they left me a nice little inexplicable charge on my credit card after I left despite the fact, I did not order anything at all during my stay there. In fact, even if I wanted to order some thing it would not be possible because the phone never worked in the room. Horrible place.

I was not aware that this hotel is an “adult party” hotel. There is paraphernalia in the rooms and the rooms are small and unappealing. If you are into adult partying etc, that’s great but it would have been nice to know that was the theme of the hotel.

The Mandrake is a stunningly fitted-out hotel, with exceptional and distinctive decoration and artwork. The staff are wonderful. The cocktails are exceptional. The atrium garden and the lounge areas in it are gorgeous.

Nightclub with rooms.
Atrocious stay. Zero sleep. It’s a nightclub with rooms and management don’t care about it. Wish we’d read the reviews first. Other people leaving the hotel saying the same at reception. There seems to be a standard script - because what we were told and what we were offered mirrored the previous reviews (not to mention promises reneged on too). Absolutely the worst hotel decision I’ve made in years.

Hotel is fine and quirky but very rough around the edges: door handle was falling off, lift ceiling hanging down, sinks were leaking, there was a high pitched tone that persisted all night. Took me 40 mins to get a breakfast which was incorrect relative to my order - when I pointed this out, the waitress laughed (likely was not even listening) Quite disappointing - would recommend using other 5* hotels in the area over this one

Very unique hotel. Staff was very welcoming and helpful even when my Expedia reservation was not on file with them. Easy check in otherwise. Lots of interesting touches in the rooms.

Unique and immersive experience? If that means loud music all night, terrible service, small rooms with tacky decor and a broken bathroom door then I would agree. It was not what I was looking for from a ‘luxury’ hotel stay. Book with caution. Live DJ at the weekend and the bar gets packed. They need to decide if they are a hotel or a nightclub. Our room was directly above the DJ booth, despite telling reception that we had booked for a night away from our baby we had to move rooms as it was so loud. We had a tiny bathroom with a sliding door that was wedged open and wouldn’t close. The bar service was not what you would expect from a luxury london hotel, or a Soho bar, they didn’t even wipe the tables. Not worth the money.

The Place to Party
Amazing hotel if you’re partying! If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing stay book elsewhere. We booked to stay over after a wedding and joined their epic Halloween Party which continued until 3am. If we’d have tried to sleep any earlier it would have been impossible as the room 3 window over looks the DJ box. There was also no outside window so no natural light, despite this being advertised as a ‘light room’. It fit the purpose but would not stay again unless we were partying.

Hip spot with mystique, but price is perhaps a bit hyped unless you really want to take advantage of the cool bar and restaurant scene. Rooms are tiny but quiet (in terms of street noise) and dark which was nice after a long flight—however, you can hear voices easily in the hallways and our neighboring guests were rudely loud and drunk in the wee hours, speaking at very loud volumes in the hallway. Bed was ok, shower was amazing! Shower was probably the best part. Breakfast was ok, nothing memorable and a simple menu but the English breakfast was satisfying. However, the waitress told us the 5 pound orange juice was fresh squeezed but it was absolutely not, it was from concentrate. The front desk staff, porters, and room service staff were very cordial and friendly and we appreciated their service.
