Hotel Riu Plaza España – Stunning Views, But Disappointing Policies
We loved the unbeatable location and panoramic rooftop views at Hotel Riu Plaza España. However, several policies made our stay uncomfortable.
First, the room’s air conditioning was impossible to regulate. Despite asking for help and trying different settings, the thermostat kept dropping, leaving us freezing. We eventually had to turn it off entirely just to sleep comfortably.
Second, access to the rooftop bar was tightly controlled. We were stopped at the front door by a new doorman who didn’t recognize us, even as hotel guests. The guest policy is unnecessarily strict—you’re allowed one guest per day, but to access the rooftop together, you must exit the hotel and re-enter with your guest. The process felt intentionally discouraging, which was frustrating for rule-abiding guests like us.
Lastly, we were repeatedly asked to have our Uber drivers stop around the corner—despite a brutal European heat wave—while other guests easily boarded cars right at the main entrance. This inconsistency felt unfair.
The hotel seems more focused on monetizing the rooftop than on treating guests with the comfort and respect they deserve.
