Some of the cons are not a fault of theirs:
Mosquitos were very bad- I mean the worst i’ve ever experienced. They were trying to mitigate them, and had bug spray at the restaurants, but we still bought and went through a whole bottle.
Because of the mosquitos it was hard to enjoy the swim up room. Only used it once since the mosquitos were biting my face, scalp, etc.
Air conditioning did not work well at night in our first room, we thought it could be from the brief power outages, but it got to 75 degrees at times yet stayed cold during the day. A day or so after mentioning it to the concerige they moved us and we did not have the problem in the new room.
Food was great and fresh everywhere we went. If I was scoring food and friendliness of staff alone it would be 5 stars. I have food allergies and Santiago at the buffet went above and beyond to get me a pastry I had been wanting. They called us by name and always checked on us. The buffet food was the best I have had, and the restaurants were top notch.
Upselling was draining. People were telling us they tried to sell them on packages, which is understandable. But it was a 1-3 hour sales pitch for a discounted spa massage. I also felt swarmed as we left when a sales woman tried to convince us to book our next stay. I’ve stayed at other resorts where they were not as bothersome about it.
Parking worked out. We had a rental car but the trees dripped sap or something. So it was dirty.
