We had a good stay with a quiet room, good breakfast and comfortable lounge and bar area to relax in food was very good and the price of the room etc was very good value, we are booked in again for later in the year and will base our plans for visiting this part of Gods own county in the coming years on the Old stone trough hotel !!!!

We have stayed here several times over the last few months and always find it at lovely comfortable place to stay. The roams are very nice and comfortable with plenty of room for your clothes a good supply of Tea coffee choc etc and fresh towels when needed. The Restaurant is very comfortable and lovely meals are served each evening Freshly cooked breakfast each morning also Cereals and fruit plus hot drinks. The staff are lovely very friendly and nothing too much trouble. It is also very accessible for that area and easy to find. I wouldn’t’hesitate to recommend The Stone Trough as a very good place to stay

The staffe and the room were excellent. The breakfast was poor. The bacon and sausages had been kept warm for quite some time which made the bacon chewy to eat. The sausages were cheap quality.

For the price we paid it was excellent value and I would definitely use again. We had our dog with us and it is extremely dog friendly, she was even allowed in the dining room. We were in the annex building, our bedroom was on the ground floor. It was good size with 2 double beds and just needed a lick of paint. It was clean though and the beds were comfy. However the bathroom, although large, drastically need updating. It had a shower tray, with a shower curtain, so obviously the water spashed everywhere and the vinyl was lifting. We stayed for an evening meal, the dining room was lovely and there seemed to be a great atmosphere. The food however let it down as far as I am concerned. My starter if garlic mushrooms had a very sage and onion taste. My chicken and mushroom pie had the same "garlic mushroom sauce" inside and not much else. I opened the really thick pastry and had 2 small cubes of chicken and a few mushrooms. Very disappointed. Breakfast was plentiful but quite tasteless. However, I would say that the staff are amazing and really friendly. This made up for the other issues. For this reason I would stay here again, but perhaps wouldnt eat here.

Overall, a very good hotel, might be coming back soon. However, my room was in the basement floor, and the room had an odd smell. This could probably be dealt with if the windows were opened to air the room. However, the room was very clean, very nice cosy bed and quiet for a really good sleep.

Stayed an overnight on way to the lakes. Great value and really good food. Ate an evening meal which was well priced and delicious. Breakfast was buffet style but had everything in abundance. Room was clean and great for a night or 2 Staff were great, helpful and attentive.

Very good value for an overnight stay, bar and restaurant are friendly and accommodating. Room was a little chilly and couldn’t see a way to activate any heating. Close enough to Barlick and no problems getting taxis.

Staff were friendly and nice. Interior and exterior are well maintained, however the rooms lack in charm. Bathroom was so small and the shower pressure was non existent. Bed was extremely comfy. Food was ok. Shame about the lack of vegetarian options. Overall, you get what you pay for.

For us, it was convenient to explore a section of Lancashire, with a view to finding a new place to move to. A very inexpensive surprise for the facilities of an 'Inn', grand piano thrown in! Would certainly recommend.

Helpful, friendly staff. We were given a free room upgrade. Nice restaurant and value for money food. Nice countryside location with easy access and parking areas. Bedrooms in annexe building cold and radiators not on long enough or self-controllable. Stayed 2 nights; first night was nice and quiet but the second night was very noisy, as some inconsiderate guests were up and down the corridor until around 4am banging doors, talking and knocking on each others doors. Don't know what was going on....?? We complained to staff the morning after, and made the night manager aware. We now know to dial reception from the room in future during the night if there are problems with noisy guests, as reception is manned 24/7.

Overall the hotel was adequate— very basic and can see they are making improvements. Dogs in dining room ok but not sitting on furniture or knees!!! Off putting, yes I’m a dog lover but there should be rules like on the floor under tables— I’ve no allergies but some / a lot of folks have…. Dog hairs Very good for the price Will return when in this area If you have a motor home …. It’s great stopping off spot

This was our third visit to the OST with our grryhound Razor and was just as enjoyable as the previous two visits (September 23 and Christmas 23). The staff are friendly and helpful. I asked for a room in the main Hotel as I have mobility issues and found the walk up from the annexe a bit difficult. When we checked in, they had allocated us a room downstairs but after explaining, they showed us room 10 on the ground floor shich was ideal. After being a bit cold on night one, they provided an extra duvet plus a fan heater and the rest of our stay was lovely and warm. There was a lot of noise early evening from other guests not controlling their children and letting them run around the corridors, but that is not the hotels fault and it quietened down at bed time so not a major problem, just annoying when you are trying to watch TV. The food every night was out of this world and great value for money. Steak chips and the trimmings for less than £15. well cooked as ordered (Blue) and very tasty. The restaurant was such good value we ate there every night whicn is a first for me as I am very watchful of my pennies! Breakfast was a self servicd buffet with Tea or Coffee, choice of fruit juices, cereals and a basic fried offering, Bacon, Fried Eggs, Sossidges, tomatoes and Beans plus as much toast as you wanted, freshly done by yourself on a conveyor belt machine. I would advise putting the bread through twice to give it a nice ta. All in all Excellent.

Absolutely flawless experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and the bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in. It's in a nice quiet area with beautiful views and ample parking. The price was good compared to other places in the area too. Will definitely stay here again soon.
