'Stromness is een mooie uitvalsbasis voor een aantal bezienswaardigheden, maar gezien de kleine afstanden op het eiland zou ik zelf in Kirkwall gaan zitten. Inns zijn over het algemeen erg goed, maar hier was de kamer echt wel heel klein, verouderd en vooral ook gehorig. Het bed was oncomfortabel: matras met veren, flinterdunne kussens. Geen enkele luxe. Dat hoeft ook niet, maar dit voelde haast als een hostel. Restaurant en bar zijn fijn om te hebben en serveren prima eten, maar het personeel...
'Pros: Friendly staff. Fantastic English breakfast. Great location, walking distance from the ferry terminal and all stores near the Stronmess waterfront. Even without an elevator, the parking location made it easy to access the room. Beds were clean and comfortable. Showers had nice high water pressure that gave a massage feeling.
Cons: The building is historic, so the floors had older carpet. Newer flooring, e.g. newer carpet or luxury vinyl plank could improve the stay experience.

'The was a very comfortable and cozy hotel. I had a great time here. I found it impeccably clean, and the cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful. It's walking distance from the downtown shopping area, but still pretty quiet. There is a lovely lounge and bar area that is very comfortable and welcoming. The shower worked very well too. I would love to stay here again!'
'The hotel doesn't have a own parking, the location is so/so and the outside of the hotel looks like there's nothing to it but don't judge this book by it's cover. The rooms and beds are amazing. You sleep sound, like sleeping beauty and the staff is very kind and friendly. Definitely a place where I would wanna go back.'
'So pleased to find Murray Arms. It was 5 minutes from our arriving ferry. Upon checkin by Suzanne, we were assigned private off-road parking. Our room for 3 nights was comfortable. The staff was exceptionally warm and welcoming for all - babies, dogs, and patrons. The meals in their restaurant were first class. They have dive boats for scallop harvesting. Our scallop dinner was the best EVER!'

"Withi-Gill was a beautiful cottage in a remarkable landscape -- views of Hoy and Graemsay were beautiful (when the weather cooperated, which was most days), and with a short walk, views of much of the western part of Mainland Orkney, including Stromness. The facilities were great, and the cottage was well-equipped for our needs. There's access to a small beach across the road and down a short track along the former millrun. Access to the rest of the mainland by car was easy and especially convenient for Stromness, Stenness, and the "heart of neolithic Orkney" sites (Brodgar, Stenness, even Skara Brae wasn't that far away). The only downside is that the cottage faces a main road down (see photo) which the locals drive very fast all day and night, which can be noisy at times. Finally, Simon was an excellent host, even though we never met in person! All in all, a great stay for us."
"We arrived late from the Shetland Ferry. Instructions to get in were clear. We had a private room but no towels, they were complimentary but had to be provided for by staff and upon arrival there was no staff… so we could not shower in the evening. All was clean and working well.
Room was clean and effective - but could be made more friendly by just putting up some pictures or Orkney fotos.. that would really make a difference.
Staff was very accomodating and nice, breakfast room was pleasant.
We had an okay stay but all in all found it quite high priced for the basic facilities we got. "
