'We frequently choose older motels that cost less. We look closely at their photos, and if it looks updated and clean we choose it. Usually we find it is owned/managed by an immigrant family, frequently from the Subcontinent, and they do an excellent job with the older property. The Royal Inn in Hudson, Wis., is such a place. It was very clean, the air conditioning worked well on a hot day, parked right in front of our room. Convenient location.'

'This is a motel, not a hotel. Room was very dirty. It didn’t seem like they’ve ever mopped the floors if they cleaned them at all. Shower didn’t drain. Very thin walls, we could hear neighbor conversations loud and clear. Good parking though and the restaurant next door is super good. Also very cheap stay for the area but you definitely get what you pay for.'
