We had booked a room for 5 nights at the Indigo Hotel for a family of 4 (inc two boys aged 11 and 9). The hotel had reserved us one room with only one bed between us. They told us it was the biggest room they had and that was their family room. They explained it was common in Japan to have all family members in one bed. We have never encountered this in all our travels before. It was disappointing because our kids aren’t babies and there’s no way we could have all slept in one bed for 5 nights. We therefore had no other choice but to reserve a second room for the children. This was not cheap for five nights in peak cherry blossom season and obviously was an unforeseen expense for us on a budgeted holiday. Very disappointing. The hotel did not do much to accommodate us given we felt that this was their mistake.
