'Great stay at the Sakaoue, very friendly staff. It was our first stay at a Ryokan and the staff took their time explaining everything we could expect and how to make use of all the facilities. They also gave us advice on where to go nearby and gave us tips on how to get there. Great stay, the room was spacious, clean and big and the Ryokan experience as a whole was definitely one I would like to repeat in the future.'

'Japanese style room was okay! It is located on a quiet residential area about 15 min walk from Kyoto central station. The reception was at a different place (next street) - you need to goto this place for checkin formalities. This was mentioned in the instructions email, nevertheless it was not convenient. Bathroom taps were old and not that handy. To get the desired temperature of hot+cold water, some amount of maneuvering is needed!'

'Meteen in de buurt van het station, dus je kunt met je koffers wandelen tot daar. Je zit dan ook meteen op Kawaramachi Doori, oftwel de hoofdstraat van Kyoto en meteen op een kwartier wandelen van het winkelcentrum. Mevrouw Midori is Chinese en geweldig lief, 24 uur bereikbaar. Ga lekker gezellig bij haar zitten en drink een biertje met haar !'

'Het guesthouse biedt veel zelfstandigheid: central keuken met gelegenheid om zelf te koken of eten op te warmen en in te zitten. Rustige buurt. Met buslijn 9 goed bereikbaar vanuit station Kyoto. Ligt vlakbij het kasteel. Bushaltes voor diverse richtingen vlakbij. 3 supermarkten in de direkte omgeving. Uitstekend geschikt voor soloreizigers. Betaalbaar.'

'Gloednieuw (april 2019) en kraaknet apart-hotel, heel aangenaam voor een iets langer verblijf in Kyoto. De ligging is uitstekend, vlakbij de metro en Gion, maar toch een rustige straat net buiten het overdrukke deel van de stad. Achter de hoek zijn lekkere restaurantjes en koffiebars. Wij werden aangenaam verrast door de moderne en volledige uitrusting in de kamer (eigenlijk meer een studio dan een kamer). Er is een keukentje en wasmachine ter beschikking, handig om een stevig ontbijt klaar te...

'Aanvankelijk zeker niet okay, maar na een klacht bij het management werd alles prima geregeld zoals we het wilden hebben. De basis inrichting e.d laat te wensen over, ook de schoonmaak was bij aankomst niet in orde maar we kregen een dag later een verl betere kamer en elke dag werd er schoon gemaakt. '

'Small stay with a good location. If you want a cheap stay in Kyoto, this might be a good option. Do note that it didn't feel that traditional + there wasn't much comfort, you basicaly slept on a thick blanket. If you don't mind sleeping on hard surfaces, this might be ok for you. The houseowner was constantly keeping an eye out & watched what you were doing all the time once you got in the common rooms, which felt a bit uncomfortable.'

'Great small hotel in the middle of Gion. A short walk to many attractions and Kyoto’s downtown. Staff was helpful and communicated well.'

'This was a unique property to stay at for our Japan trip. The property was beautiful and was definitely an experience I recommend. Staff was so helpful when first arriving. They try their best to explain things, especially with a language barrier for myself. The hospitality was exceptional. Would recommend anyone to stay here. A little far of a walk from the main station with luggage so maybe a take a taxi. And have them take you to the check-in area instead of the property itself.'

'The place is too small and cramped up but clean, no towel provided, need to pay extra to use the towel, and it was not indicated that the restroom/ bathroom is shared to the other tenants but it's ok for us since we just stayed 2 days. Walkable restaurants, convenient store, and walkable Shrine nearby. Train station is far so we need to ride taxi.'
