'The house was nice generally but the room I stayed in was very musty and smelled like cigarettes. The towels were horribly musty. It’s a must to use bleach on hotel towels but these smelled like it was not being used. The room mattress was way too soft for me. Finally, they required a $200 deposit which was not for incidentals but “in case there’s damage to the room”'

'We were really looking forward to the hot tub and it was the main reason we booked this place. When we looked at it, it was cloudy and dirty. We later found out it was broken. We ended up not staying either of the two nights we booked here. It seems fair to get a some refund since the hot tub was broken.'

'This property is so close to being great. There is a reason it is cheaper than other places. Here are the things to consider when booking:#1 - and probably most important - the host was not appropriately responsive to problems. The cord on skillet was cut and hot plate was malfunctioning so we were unable to cook anything and had to waste groceries and eat out. There was a microwave but food we had needed skillet. Host sent one sentence about another hot plate that didn’t exist and then either...

'My family stayed here for a week for celebrations and a family reunion. The property is stunning and the hosts are kind, welcoming and well-informed on the area and property. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen extremely well-equipped (a vitamix!) The hosts are good communicators and I would highly recommend this place for a big group looking for lots of space in a remote area of Hawaii island. One thing potential guests will want to know-- although we found this place very...

'Volcano is a rural area, and this lodge is no different. The grounds are beautiful. This property is great for people who appreciate the outdoors. I was happy that the shower was HOT, as it gets cold in Volcano. Some things that would've made our stay a little better are: a portable fan, a larger dehumidifier, and bottled water. Note: the hosts provided drinking water in a beverage dispenser, however I would've preferred bottled water. The space was a little tight for our group of 4; I would...

'We had a dreamy stay at Pu'u O Hoku Ranch! We really enjoyed slowing down and enjoying each other's company in a beautiful setting. Coming from the hustle and bustle of Oahu, it was exactly what we were looking for. We spent countless hours hanging out by the lodge pool and soaking up the old Hawai'i vibe. The convenience of farm-to-table meals prepared by the ranch team was ideal. The local venison, beef, and veggies were delicious. Our kids loved having breakfast together then heading out to...

'Two of the towels were not cleaned and still hanging behind the bathroom door. Some of the towels had stains on them. The property was ok but not super clean. It was just for one night so we were fine with it otherwise would not recommend staying in it for multiple days. The sofa bed was quite old. Definitely not worth $200+ per night.'
