On arrival at the hotel at 17:30 our room was not ready. We understood they had some issues with housekeeping so waited in the bar area with some free drinks.
At approx 18:00 we got the keys to an 'upgraded' room for the inconvenience, to find that it had not been cleaned. Dirty cups next to the bed, used towels and used bin.
Returned to reception and joined the huge queue again. Other guests also in the queue for the second time with similar issues. One lady found another guest in her room! By 18:30 we got our second room key (back to the grade we paid for).
By this time we were desperate for a shower after a long journey so allowed for the litter and un-wiped sticky bedside table to slide in our second room. Towels and bedding appeared to be clean this time.
Mentioned this to reception later in the evening who agreed to a breakfast voucher for our troubles.
After initial disappointment and delays the room was nicely decorated and located very close to a tube station and Tower bridge.
We ate on one evening at St Katherine's dock which is in easy walking distance and very pretty.
Breakfast was average. Bar staff very friendly.
