Any discussion of this property has to start with the view and location. The view is postcard-worthy. Lobster boats, an island, and a lighthouse make it look like the Maine Department of Tourism designed it! Southport Island is a perfect location. Quiet and forested with easy access to great food and activities. The Southport General Store is a national treasure! The house itself is perfectly nice. Very clean. Excellent kitchen. Tasteful decor. No AC but the ocean breeze through the windows kept it very comfortable. Indoor furniture is not fancy, but perfectly serviceable. Lots of nice touches such as many, many towels, shampoo & body wash dispensers, high quality hand soap.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would visit again! That said, I have to dock them one star for the deck. The furniture there no longer looks anything like the picture. Wood has weathered badly and looks so disgusting that you don't feel comfortable touching it. Cushions have been replaced - but the current ones are dirty and stained. We only spent about 30 minutes up there in five days. Fortunately the living room has a wall of crystal clear glass with the same view and comfy chairs (and no wind, sun, or bugs) so we were happy. I realize that outdoor furniture when you are oceanside has challenges. If it were me I would use high quality wrought aluminum or composite furniture with a mesh sling.Nevertheless, we would highly recommend this home for a Maine vacation. We hated to leave.
