I had a one night stay, but could leave my luggage at the hotel before check-in (14.00) and after check-out (10.30), so I could fully enjoy the city. Apparently it was quiet, because my booked 1-person room (10m2) actually landed me in a spacy room with 2 double-beds. The room had its own toilet and shower. Everything was spotless clean. Besides easily connected wifi and tv, the room also had coffee/tea included. Unfortunately, I could not figure out how the bedside lamp could be used, so I had to get out of bed to switch on/off the ceiling lights.
My booking included breakfast, which I took continental style (toast, cheese, jam, orange juice), but buffet allowed for additional choices. From the breakfast room on the third floor Edinburgh Castle could be seen (high up the mountain).
The floors of this monumental hotel originally were separate apartments, which each have been splitted into several, nice rooms. There is no lift, but the hotel manager quickly helped me with carrying my suitcase up the stairs.
The hotel itself is in a quiet, almost traffic-free part of the street, but tram, bus and train are really close by. The airport is only half an hours ride by tram or bus.
The shops and all tourist attractions (Edinburgh Castle, many museums, fantastic views) are all within about 15 minutes walking distance.
