Deeply Disappointed — Double-Booked and Left Stranded
I booked this property six months in advance for a special birthday trip with friends. We confirmed with the host the day before arrival — only to show up and find the house already occupied by another group who had booked it for the entire month.The host eventually admitted it was double-booked and told us to “contact Vrbo,” offering no tru apology or solution. Vrbo support was unable to help us that evening due to time zone issues, leaving six women in our 20s stranded during peak season with no place to stay.We scrambled to find an emergency rental at a much higher cost and also incurred unexpected transportation expenses because we had to stay farther away.Vrbo did issue a refund for the original booking, but that doesn’t come close to covering the emotional stress, added costs, and disruption to our trip. I will be reaching out directly to support again to request a an additional refund to my card (not a credit) for coverage of our added transportation costs, and an explanation of how this happened — especially in light of Vrbo’s “Book with Confidence Guarantee.”This experience was incredibly disappointing and unsafe, and I hope Vrbo takes accountability and implements stronger safeguards to prevent this from happening to others.
